Pickett County Schools receive state report card!
Pickett County Schools received their state report card and it shows improvement over last year in academics.
It indicates that both schools are SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) accredited. In nonacademic indicators such as attendance and promotion rate at the K-8 level we exceed the state goal. In addition, we exceeded the state level in per pupil expenditures by $501.

Congratulations goes to teachers, staff, students, and community for their dedication and committment in striving for continued improvement in our academics.

High School
At the 9-12 level we exceed state goals for attendance and presently the drop out rate. However, we failed to exceed the graduation rate for the year 2005.
The PCHS met the academic standards for percent tested, percent proficient/advanced in math, reading, and language arts/writing. However, fell short in the graduation rate.

In looking at our Gateway Test scores, English, Math, Biology and ACT scores, we realize that even though we met the Federal benchmark we could improve. Thus, we added an English computer lab at the 9-12 level, a credit recovery program, reading classes, test prep class (gateway and ACT) multimedia classes and are working in a low pupil teacher ratio. We feel that by taking these measures we will aid in improving all students' academic scores at the 9-12 level in the following years.
K-8
Math target was set at 79%, Pickett County was 91%.
Reading/Language plus writing target was 83%, Pickett County was 91%.
Writing at the 4th/5th level - our score was 4.0 (A).
Writing at the 7th/8th level - our score was 4.6 (A).
In all criterion referenced adademic achievement, the K-8 received all B's (above average). In the TVAAS --value added on growth standard (3 year average) our score improved in the following manner.
Reading/Language from C to B
Math - from D to C
Science - maintained B
Social Studies - from C to A

In the AYP (adequate yearly progress) report the Pickett Co. K-8 met all federal benchmarks for percent tested, percent proficient/advanced in all areas of math, reading, language arts and writing as well as the attendance rate was met.
